Singing for Vultures (trifecta week : seventy one )

“Have you ever auditioned for Broadway?” asked a mesmerized bystander.
“I am afraid not “came an unusually calm reply.
“Well, you must! You deserve more than singing in hope for charity by others, goddess muse herself resides in you, and your presence is unworthy for common man .You must let me help you .”
This petite girl gave the man a very thoughtful look and replied expressionlessly “The world doesn't care neither for art nor integrity “, they rain accolades on us like the one they reserve for strippers and in return we are expected to rip off our very souls for their amusement and yet, they are never satiated till one is left nothing more than flesh and bones “.
There was a flicker of sadness in her eyes which vanished as soon as it came.
“Big words spoken on an empty stomach .You will eventually learn “came a scornful reply.
“Here, take my card, reach out to me when your integrity is not good enough to feed you “.
“Thank you “, she took it callously.
As soon as the man was out of sight, she tore the card into pieces with rage and took deep breaths.
A limousine rolled in front of her, and the window slid down with intent of drawing minimal attention.
“Miss, you must hurry, you have a performance tonight, your team is waiting for you backstage “.
“Yes”, she seated herself gracefully on the backseat.
“Pardon me miss, but this behavior is precarious “.
She didn't reply  and he knew her enough not to expect any.
It does not please me, it is the only time I feel alive, rest is just to be relevant for those vultures .She thought to herself mournfully.

  1. An interesting piece. I think I get what the girl means--it seems most of the world would like nothing more than to tear a person or object down rather than appreciate each aspect of it.

  7. That was a great story. You are in my pick of winners circle :-) ..Loved the twist and loved your insight that the world does not truly care for art. Only a few sense art and are touched by the beauty of it.
